Career Orientation Tour: helping students dream again

We took career guidance into a high school classroom, with an artist, a data scientist and our founder. It was the first stop of many.

Students seated in a classroom listening

Last week we kicked off our Career Orientation Tour for high school students. Our reason is simple: many students today have very limited career exposure, and the economic crisis and the education system have worn their aspirations down.

When we asked students what they wanted to become, the answers were few and cautious. One student told us they wanted to be a chef, and lit up when we said that was a real, respected career path.

Our facilitators

  • Mr Akumbu L. Jones Bubuh, Director of La Libertè Arts Groupe and founder of Black Swagger Inc.
  • Miss Divina Mbel, data scientist and Women Techmakers Ambassador
  • Miss Yekov Cindy, founder of Yekov Foundation

Thank you to our partners Skye8 and Women Techmakers Bambili.

The next stops

This was the first stop of the tour, and we plan to visit many more schools. As a community, guiding young people and encouraging them to dream again is our shared responsibility. If you would like the tour to visit your school, or to join as a facilitator, get in touch.
